A cooperation agreement has been signed to host the wind energy Atlas of Sudan between the Wind Energy Project and the Sudanese Electricity Transmission Co Ltd in the presence of the Director of the General Directorate of New and Renewable Energies in the Ministry of Water Resources and Electricity, as well as the technical experts from both sides.
Engineer Yousuf Hamza, Director General of the Sudanese Electricity Transmission Co, said that the services required from the company for this project include determining the transmission lines of the network for the whole of Sudan, as well as determining the locations where wind can be used throughout the country. “We hope that this program goes further since we rely heavily on it for developing and training our engineering staff working in this field”.
Eng. Mahjoub Issa Khalil, director of the General Directorate of New and Renewable Energies at the ministry, said that this project is one of the pioneering projects for the exploitation of wind energy. He praised the signing of this agreement, describing it as an opening step to invest in this type of energy. “Today, we are taking a major and pioneering step for the Sudanese people to complete their production of electricity by water generation and fossil fuels with these new natural resources”.
“This project is funded by a grant from the GEF & UNDP and the signing of this agreement comes within the framework of cooperation between the project and the Sudanese Electricity Transmission Co and the Directorate of New and Renewable Energies to host the Wind Energy Atlas in the GIS system, then to generate electricity from wind energy in different areas of Sudan”. Said Engineer Hind Elamin, Wind Energy Project Manager.
